What Does This Abscess Report Signify?

FNAC

SPECIMEN:Right cervical lymph node.

CLINICAL DETAILS:Abscess.

MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION:

Pauci cellular smears shows scattered epithelioid histiocytes and few lymphocytes.

Background shows abundant acellular eosinophilic necrosis.

No evidence of malignancy in smears studied.

IMPRESSION:S/O ABSCESS POSSIBLY KOCH'S ETIOLOGY

Thanks for writing in.

The lymph node swelling contains cells which are found in an abscess most likely seen in tuberculosis. An abscess is a localized collection of pus in a cavity formed by disintegration of tissues. In your case the pus is caused by infection due to TB causing bacilli. Please discuss this finding with your doctor and take treatment for the condition. Treatment may have to be taken for 9 months to a year.
