What Does This Abdominal Ultrasound Report Indicate?

Hi, I want to know about my mother. Her age is 46 years. In Ultrasonography report, it was found that her liver size is 163mm, cranio-caudally. The liver parenchyma shows increased parenchymal echogenicity and attenuated blood vessels. Her uterus is bulky and measures 10.6 cm in length, 5.1 cm antero-posteriorly and 3.8 cm in transverse diameter. Can you please help me regarding the liver and kidney report!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The finding of the glandular material in the uterine wall may cause the uterus to become enlarged (called hypertrophy) and sometimes doctors use the term 'bulky uterus'.

This simply means that the uterus is larger than normal and more than 6 cm thick.

A uterus can become enlarged for many reasons, the most common being fibroids. These are benign, muscular tumors that grow in the wall of the uterus and can cause pain and bleeding.

An enlarged uterus may cause a number of symptoms, such as weakness, cramping, constipation, pain during sex and menstrual abnormalities.

An enlarged uterus is usually not a cause for concern, provided that its cause has been determined by sonogram or CT scan.

Increased echogenicity is common in chronic infection or inflammation of liver like hepatitis.

It is related to fatty infiltration and the degree of fibrotic changes present. Increased Hepatic echogenicity is a sonographic descriptor where there uniform smooth hepatic echotexture of the liver is lost.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
