Hi i am Dr Ahmed Aly
thanks for using healthcaremagic site ,
I had gone through your question and understand your concerns ..

In my opinion i think your husband may have a sort of arthritis in his hip joint that may have exaggerated his old sciatica problem .
Arthritis is a type of inflammation that happens within the joint causing swelling and making more pressure on his spinal nerve roots and increasing his pain .
For my patients i may recommend Advil tab when needed , hot massages with topical gels , B12 vitamin supplementation , avoid standing for a long time and over using his joint , vigorous movements with some elevation of his legs , healthy life style and low salt and proteins meals will be effective for most of cases .
If his pain persists i recommend a visit to his physician for proper evaluation and management .
