I had a lipid profile after fasting 12hrs. my numbers as follows Total Cholestrol 221, HDL 42, Trigleceride 120, VLDL 24, LDL 155, cholestrol/HDL ratio 5.26. How can trigleceride be in the normal rage while cholestrol is at the border line as in my case?

Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

Your reports suggests hypercholesterolemia.Altered lipid profile can present with many ways.It may be isolated elevated cholesterol, triglyceride level or combination of increased different lipids.
In your case, you have only borderline increased cholesterol level.
You need few other investigations like routine hemogram,Random blood sugar(RBS),Liver function test(LFT),RFT,ultrasound of abdomen.Further investigations can be done if needed.

You should avoid red meat, high fat milk products.

In condition like yours,I suggest my patients for follow up and diet and life style modification.
If condition doesn't improve then medicines can be prescribed.

Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your question.

Take Care
