What Does My CAT Scan Suggest?

Hi Dr Oana,

I just received my CT scan due to a mass under my right ear which I've had for over six years. 6 years ago they diagnosed this as a lipoma. However never tested it just examined it. More recently I have been experiencing diarrhea, (3months) back pain, blurred vision, night sweats, difficulty sleeping etc.. went to PCP. She noted that the mass had grown significantly. She sent me to an ENT who ordered the CAT scan. My grandfather passed away due to lymphoma and I am concerned. My CAT results indicate that there is "very subtle asymmetry in the subcutaneous fat in the posterior triangle posteriorly and laterally in the right side of the neck, which may or may not account for the palpable abnormality". Also noted "There are numerous additional subcetimeter lymph nodes seen in the neck bilaterally blah blah blah... The final impression indicates that there is very subtle asymmetric increase in the subcutaneous fat .. Could you explain all of this in layman's terms? Also all blood work looked good except I had elevated "C reactive protine". Thoughts?

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Your ct scan report indicate some fat containing mass. So it can be lipoma or some other tumor. Moreover multiple enlarged lymphnode are there in neck. It can be due to some infection. Chances of lymphoma is rare but we should confirm that. You should go for biopsy of mass and lymphnode. It will give you exact diagnosis.
C reactive protein is inflammatory marker and it suggest some inflammatory condition. So don't worry about that.

Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer.
