General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
The swooshing sound is called a tinnitus. The cause is usually the inflammation of the inner ear structures due to infection in the middle ear, secondary to infection in the throat, spreading to the ear structures.
This also give a feeling of clogging.
Hearing gets diminished.
The feeling of the tinnitus going up with the increase in heart rate and blood pressure indicates that the swelling inside is too much that it responds like the heart.
The best way of getting a diagnosis is :
CT scan of the PNS , Mastoids .
Audiometry to know the exact loss of hearing and probably helps in knowing the pressure in the middle ear and the extent of the hearing loss.

You need a course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicines for a long time as there is no definite treatment for tinnitus.
