What Does Bleeding With Cramps Post Abortion Suggest?

I am a 30 year old mother of 3. I lost a baby in may of 2010, then i opted to have an abortion in april of this year. May 24th what I thought was a normal period started. I bled very very heavy for 6 days and then thought i was off, but I only stopped for about 12 hours and then have been bleeding since then. I am cramping now and I also noticed there is a bit of a yellowish discharge and there has been brown, red and pink blood and clots. I went to the emergency room in mid june and they did an ultrasound and didnt see anything and told me to go see an ob. Problem is I don't have an ob or insurance. I am still bleeding and now that I have cramps too I don't know if I should return to the emergency room. please help...

Hi,
In the current scenario, you definitely need to see a specialist and have a proper complete evaluation of the cause of bleeding to plan further management. The nature of the blood clots suggests that there can be both fresh and old bleeding. You need a sonogram of the pelvis to see the status of the pelvic organs and also blood counts and urinalysis to exclude infections. You also need to maintain hemodyamic status since you are bleeding. Hope this helps.
