What Could The White Specs In The Dead Finger Skin Be?

I have a spot on my right middle finger that just seemed to appear the other day. It was skin colored, but had several tiny little white specs in it. I thought it might be a wart, so I applied apple cider vinegar to it, wrapped it in a band-aid and moved on. 2 days later the skin began to peel, which made these little white specs very visible. I decided to take a cotton ball with alcohol and remove the dead skin and I was able to pick the little white specs out with tweezers. Any idea what this could be? I have searched everywhere for an answer pertaining to what these little white specs could be, but most indications of a wart tell me the specs would appear black/brown in color. Thanks!
