If your child has asymmetry of her chest wall and this is the cause of the swelling then your paediatrician is right in that this is not associated with any problems within the chest. It is unusual however for this type of problem to present at this age. It is usually something that becomes more obvious in the older child. I would want to make sure on physcial examination that your daughter does not have any curvature in her spine and that this swelling was definitely the chest wall and not something else. Imaging can be done if there is uncertainty in the form of an ultrasound, CT and or MRI scan. I would usually start with ultrasound as this can be done at this age awake but the CT and MRI scan requires anaesthesia. If this truely is a chest wall deformity then some success has been achieved with bracing although this may not start until your child is older. I hope this answers your question. Best wishes
