What Could Cause Abdominal Distention?

I have severe abdominal distention that happens at random times, pretty much every day. I was recently tested for celiac disease and my tests came back normal. However, I put myself on a gluten free diet anyways, and the size of my distention has gotten better but is not completely gone. I have been keeping a food journal and have noticed that the last few days, when I did not consume dairy, my problems disappeared completely. Today, I had one piece of cheese, and within hours my intestines ballooned. Could this be from only one piece of cheese. My GI doctor quickly wrote my problem off as IBS, but I know that this is being caused by something.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of severe abdominal distension that happens at random times, almost every day, tested for Celiac disease, that was normal, on gluten free diet, not consuming dairy completely relieves distension, even a single piece if cheese increased distension, Gastroenterologist wrote this as IBS...
As per the history given by you, this is intolerance to the milk and milk proteins and hence I would advise you the following:
Stop all the milk and milk products strictly and you will be relieved and you will be symptom-free. You may try gluten at least once and see if it is causing any trouble or not.
Since there is a definite cause of the bloating, this is not IBS that is irritable bowel syndrome.
