What Could Be The Reason For Getting Frequent Cramps In Legs And Hands?

Hi Dr.! I am a healthy 70 year old female- drink lots of water, on no meds but my question is that I have been getting hand cramps, usually in my left hand although today I got a few in my right hand as well- only lasting a minute or so. I often have leg cramps at night only, although none recently, it is the hand cramps that are annoying! Any suggestions! Thank you.

Hi,Dear.Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC.
Cramps can occur due to overuse of a muscle, dehydration,or muscle strains. But some times these can occur due to deficiency of essential nutrients i.e. potassium, calcium and magnesium. This can be due to dietary deficiency of these nutrients.
So for that you should drink milk and coconut water, eat green leafy vegetables and fruits.Along with that you can have a nutritional supplement daily to met with your needs.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Hi, thank you for writing to Healthcare Magic.
I have gone through your query and understood your concerns.
Frequent cramps are a common part of aging but may be indicative of a far greater health complication. Causes of these frequent cramps are many and may be from neurological, muscular or metabolic (electrolyte) disorders. In my opinion, I would suggest you see a GP or Geriatrician for proper assessment.
I hope I have answered your query.
I wish you good health
