Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
We had a home made chicken and dumplings lastnight at a friends, my daughter complained (three year old) of a stomach ache. Had a low fever, threw up at 2:30, and at 3 I was ablt to get some tylenol in her, still working on pedialyte. Should I be concerned as that there were also small chicken bones that I myself had to pull out?
It is likely that your child is suffering from viral gastroenteritis due to consumption of contaminated food, or water. There is nothing to be concerned about at this stage as she is accepting fluids orally, and minute chicken bones are less likely to cause any harm. I would suggest you keep your child well hydrated, and well rested at home till she recovers fully. The use of medication for stomach cramps and vomiting is not necessary as most viral enteritis is self-limiting. However, use of pedialyte is an excellent way to keep your daughter hydrated; do continue using it. In addition, Tylenol is safe on stomach compared to other fever medication and can be used for fever in gastroenteritis. If the symptoms persist beyond 3 days or worsen consider taking your child to a GP.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
