What Causes Splitting Of Ear Behind The Earlobe?

My sons ear started to split behind the ear at the ear lobe and has since followed up behind the ear about half way. I put neosporin on it but it isnt helping. Does he need medical attention? What causes this? He is 9 years old, 105 lbs and is approximatley 4ft tall. The only medical history he has is that he had tonsils and adnoids removed at approx age 5

Hi,

Noted the history about your 9 year old son starting to get splitting at the ear lobe about half way, there is history of removal of tonsils and adenoids when he was 5 years old.
The commonest reasons I can think about in such a case are one of the following:
Atopic dermatitis causing skin problems. Also watch at the skin of leg there may be skin changes.
Habit of rubbing excessive - this you have to watch.
Deficiency of vitamins.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult a Dermatologist so that a proper diagnosis can be thought of.
Request for blood investigations for vitamins.
If there is any deficiency of vitamins then it can be corrected with permanent cure.
Rest of the treatment as advised by the Dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
