What Causes Shooting Pain In The Kidney Area?

Hi, I have been having trouble with my bowels for years, and I have seen many specialists. The only thing that was ever found is a non-specific colitis a year ago. However, I keep on having lots of nagging pain on my left side, and some days an intense shooting pain in the back, in the area of my kidneys. Do you have any idea what this could be?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Suggest you to visit ER to have a physical examination. Flank pain can be due to bladder infection, UTI, stones, pyelonephritis, uropathy, cancer, dehydration or gastritis. You should get CBC, Urinalysis & investigations done to screen out any developing pathology. In the meantime take plenty of water, ORS, Pantoprazole-40, once daily for relieve. Take nutritious diet with fiber. Take care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The symptoms are might be due to some minor stones in your kidney. You can take an ultrasound scan to look for any stones (calculi) some where in your urinary tract. As of now you can take analgesics like Cyclopam for symptomatic relief.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
