Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was out of town 3 1/2 weeks ago and a boil on my leg. They gave me Cephalexin i started having diarrhea right after taking it. i have continued to have it off and on for 3 weeks now. i associated it to my IBS. So i have been taking Imodium. 4 days ago i started having 10-12 watery stools a day, so i went to the ER on Sat. They are treating me for C Diff. My test hasn't came back, but my pain is worse. I don't know what to do.
Well come to HCM Thank for asking and appreciate your concern, initially it could be antibiotic induced diarrhea, but the history and the symptoms being stated here it may not be due to antibiotic neither it is due to IBS but it could be due to some GI infection it seems to be protozoa infection, if I would be doctor of this case then I would try to treat this case with Metronidazole first 400 mg twice in day for five days along with probiotic like lactobacillus. Unless it is being diagnosed just stop worrying it may not be anything serious but it could be protozoa infection and with specific treatment it comes around very well. hope this information helps.
