Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Chest Pain While Recovering From Flu?
I m a 58 old female who has drank beer for many years now having breathing and chest pains in the morning and by late afternoon feels as if I have the flu. I ve gone to the family doctor in January and was told I m depressed. They took a ekg which was alright and sent me home. Month for month I m getting sicker and I suggested blood work. Last week on the 5th I had it drawn and have heard nothing about it as of today the 8th. Could my problem be the beer or maybe something. Thank you
I would explain that your symptoms could be related to sleep apnea or a metabolic disorder.
For this reason, I recommend consulting with your attending physician and performing first a chest X-ray study and pulmonary function tests.
A polysomnogram would help investigate for sleep apnea. Some blood lab tests would be necessary too (complete blood count, PCR, kidney and liver function tests, blood electrolytes, thyroid hormone levels, fasting glucose).
You should discuss with your doctor on these tests.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
Cardiologist
