What Causes Severe Back Pain Along With Pain In The Skull?

My husband started out with base skull pain, now pain moved to the left ear. He has swelling with pain in front of ear down towards his neck. It very obvious. He Has been to ER and Doc ruled out inner ear infection. Gave him antibiotics for swelling without any type of tests. We have no diagnosis. Head hurts to move and has grinding pain when moving head. New symptoms upper and lower back more than normal pain. (Spine). Are we exaggerating and worrying for nothing? This going on for over a week. Ibprofin is the only med to relieve a little bit of pain.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
xray cervical spine is recommended since above symptoms showing cervical disc prolapse /canal stenosis
MRI spine may be required
treatment can be rationalised after that could be surgical / physiotherapy as per results of test
