What Causes Recurring Throat And Stomach Problems?

I have been having throat and stomach problems of late that keep coming and going over the last few weeks. I m at my first year at university and after the exam period I have been drinking more than normal, and it started after a night out. My symptoms are throat tightness(feels like a lump in my throat) and a bloated feeling in the stomach. It s starting to stress me out, any advice on what may be causing this?

Hi dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

There is no need to panic , because you are suffering from acid reflux disease also known as gastrointestinal acid reflux disease (GERD) . Simple change in life style along with some medicine can give you full relief from this condition. In this condition the upper sphincter of esophagus do not work properly and allow the acidic content of the stomach to come upwards upto nasopharynx . As you mention in query that you are drinking much in these days this will exaggerate the condition by causing . I would suggest you to :-

- Avoid spicy and heavy meals like very fatty and sugary food .

- Avoid eating late night , Eat at least 1 hour before going to bed .

- Take light walk at least for 15 minutes after every meal .

- Quit drinking.

- Take antacids like gelusil .

Consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order endoscopy and ambulatory acid test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may also order X-ray of upper digestive system .
