What Causes Pain In Abdomen And Lower Back After Having A Miscarriage?

i started bleeding very slightly last monday (9 days ago). this was 2 weeks after my last period. i contacted my GP as this has happened before last year, and i had a miscarriage although at that time i did not know i was pregnant. my GP said that it is highly likely that i was having an early miscarriage, however there was nothing that could be done as it was so early. i was fine for about 4 days. on the friday and over the weekend, i have been having some pain, similar to period pain, and my bleeding has become alot worse. i had a few days off work, but went back in yesterday. however i woke up 3 hours ago (approx 2am) in extreme pain in my lower right abdomen, in my lower back and feeling very sick. i have taken pain killers and took a hot water bottle to bed, but the pain is so bad i cant sleep now.for the last 3 hours i have been crying in bed with the pain. i got up about half an hour ago (standing up straight really hurts) and the pain seems to have lifted slightly. anyway, my question is, does anyone think this is serious? should i call my GP (husband is worried and says i should) or should i just try and put up with it? if this was an ectopic pregnancy would the pain ease after a few hours or would it be constant? i dont remember being in this much pain last time i had a miscarriage? also now feel like when i stand up i have a balloon like feeling in my stomach!
