What Causes Pain Around Ribs While Coughing Or Sneezing?
Hi 3 weeks ago I got a bad cough which I am prone to. But I have pain around my ribs on left hand side which hurts when I cough or sneeze. And is bad when I lie down at night. I am not really coughing now but still have wheeze. Have I pulled a muscle or could it be something else
Hi & Welcome to HCM. I appreciate your concern for the chest pain while coughing or sneezing. The features described in your query are suggestive of a lung condition referred to as Pleurisy.
Pleurisy is inflammation of the lining of the lungs and chest that leads to chest pain which gets aggravated by deep breathing, coughing, sneezing and chest movements. Most commonly it is due to infection, such as a viral infection, pneumonia or tuberculosis.
I advise you to consult a physician/pulmonologist for proper evaluation and workup like lab tests such as CBC, ESR, Chest X-rays or CT scan of the chest to detect the underlying cause and followed by appropriate treatment.
Hope the explanation given above could be useful in getting the relief from the chest pain.
