What Causes Numbness Around Throat, face And Blackout Sensation While Swallowing?

Greetings Doc, I am 30 years old male, around 6 feet tall & weighing 90Kgs. Of late i have started feeling a split second numbness sensation around my throat & face/ blackout sensation while swallowing saliva alone. It s not there while swallowing food/chewing anything or even drinking water. It s like something has got stuck to my upper throat. Sometimes, immediately after the numbness, i have difficulty in breathing for 1-2 seconds & my chest feels heavy. I was diagnosed with Hiatus Hernia (by birth) in 2005 and underwent ballooning . Kindly advise. P.S: I am a regular smoker - Upto 20 Cigs a day or more.

Hello,

You may be suffering from pharyngitis or keratitis or acid reflux or malignancy due to smoking. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.

Get it done oral examination and endoscopy. If necessary need biopsy.

Blackout in swallowing may be due to swallowing induced syncope or arrhythmia in which hiatus hernia part may irritate while swallowing may give rise to arrhythmia.

So get it done ECG, 24 hours ECG monitor. Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
