14 days ago, I had a blunt force trauma injury to my nose. I went to an immediate care facility that evening and was given a prescription for a nasal spray and was told to take NSAIDs to reduce swelling/inflammation. The inside of my nose is still swollen and breathing through my nose is difficult due to continued swelling. Additionally, my nose feels somewhat numb. It has improved since the initial injury however, I thought after 14 days the swelling and numbness would have subsided completely. your thoughts?
HI. The numbness and swelling in the nose is due to trauma. The septal abscess or a hematoma might have caused the blockage of the nose. Consult an ENT surgeon who on clinical examination can ask you to undergo tests of blood, urine. Also go for a CT scan of the face with 3-D reconstruction to see the skeletons for fracture and attendant complications . Numbness can be due to the sensory nerves getting traumatized. IF the numbness and the swellings are persistent even after 14 days , infection has to be ruled out. Higher antibiotics should be started and clinical and radiological diagnosis has to be reviewed . If there is a problem with the bones , Rhinoplasty may be considered, Till then continue Nasal sprays .
