Hi,

Anti-depressants can cause menstrual disorders like painful cramps, heavy bleeding, or missed periods as side effect. Serotonin levels which become higher during the drug intake can affect other hormones like prolactin and cause delayed bleeding in some women. Irregular or delayed periods may continue for first 3 months of drug use. In case of prolonged symptoms for more than 3 months,a direct clinical examination may be required.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
