What Causes Loss Of Bladder Control? What Is Remedial To Reduce This?

I am a 52 yr old male and within the last 3-4years i am experiencing difficulty holding up urine before reaching the washroom. All attempts to squeeze [proves to be futile as urine escapes down my leg causing embarassing moments. What do you think could be the cause of that and what may be a viable solution? I do not suffer from either diabetes nor hypertension nor have I ever had any STDs of bladder infections in the past

Concerned.

Thanks for contacting HCM

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems holding your urine. What you describe is what we call urge incontinence it is caused by the bladder going into spasms when the urge to urinate starts. It could also be related to incomplete emptying of the bladder and over flow of urine from a too full bladder. All these conditions need to be evaluated by a urologist. I recommend that you see a urologist to do the proper testing and give you the best treatment.

There are medications that can help this condition but a full urology evaluation would be needed before they would be prescribed.

In the mean time you can help reduce the leakage by doing Kegel exercises. These exercises are tightening the muscles around your rectum. Doing them every hour or set up a pattern to do as many of these exercises through out the day will help. This strengthens the bladder sphincter muscles and may help reduce the incontinence.
