What Causes Itchy Soles And Toes In Diabetics?

I have had type one diabetes for almost 40 yrs. I am on a pump and h1cs run between 6.1-7for last several years. I have mild sensory and autonomic neuropathy, but I m otherwise doing quite well. I have over the last several days developed itchy toes and soles at night only and only on one foot. Online reading seems to connect this with diabetes. I see no rash. Endocrinologist or foot Dr? My endocrine facility is part of the Joslin center. I have not been wearing socks, just sandals. HELP!! Will Benadryl oral help?

Hello welcome to HCM.
Your diabetes is well controlled actually if the HBA1c is within 6 to 7.
But usually after 10 years of diabetic neuropathy starts . usually the first symptom is burning or itchy feet. My advice to you is -
1.every 3 monthly check FBS, PP2BS AND HBA1c report. Blood sugar control is must to prevent further progress.
2.you shshould consult a diabetologist who can treat you on Longterm basis.
3. TO Confirm sensory neuropathy Nerve conduction study is available.. Ask your doctor about it.
4.local gels and tabs are available for burning feet.. But you need written prescription for that.
Thank you . benadryl will not help.
If you have any questions you can also ask personally.

Your symptoms i feel are because of Diabetes related neuropathy. Its good to know that your sugars are under control.
I feel its best to consult a neurologist who can assess you and try something like maybe pregabalin.
wishing you the best!
