Heart palpitations can be due to different possible causes. It can be related to the heart itself or due to infection, anemia or thyroid disease. It can also be a side effect of medication or caffeine related products.
To determine the cause , you would need to be assessed by your doctor. Your assessment would include history and physical examination (blood pressure, pulse, thyroid examination, mucous membranes for anemia)
An ECG to assess heart rate and rhythm would be needed as well as blood tests such as complete blood count and thyroid function tests. The complete blood count would identify anemia and also assess for infection.
The treatment would depend on the cause found.
I hope this helps
