What Causes Fever And Higher CRP Level In Blood?

My 4yr old son keeps getting random fevers of 103-104.2, for about the last 4 months. He has no other symptoms. He went to the dr yesterday to have blood work done(had fever for week ended on monday, but dr still wanted to see him) His CRP is 34 and his sed rate was 48. The dr is contacting an infectious disease dr to see what they say. 34 is high for a crp(I think) so should I be alarmed at this? One other piece of information he had osteomylitis Jan 2009. in his ankle, treated in the hospital for a week.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Fever lasting for 4 months is less likely from a common infection. More chance is for other causes like a connective tissue disorder, or chronic infection like Tuberculosis. High CRP and ESR just says there is an ongoing inflammation. We need more detailed evaluation depending on examination findings. Your doctor will guide in this.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
