What Causes Extremely Heavy And Clotty Periods?

Hi my name is amber and I had a few questions about my period. I am 19 and this month my period came 4 days late and usally my first 1 to 2 days are a little heavy and the rest of the time it is mostly light but this month it is very heavy and there is alot of clotting and i am on my 4 th day and it is still very heavy and I am constantly changing tampons and I am a little concerned. I mean should I be worried? Thank you for your time.

Many women have clots in their menstrual blood from time to time. The clots may be bright red or dark in color. Often, these clots are shed on the heaviest days of bleeding. The presence of multiple clots in your flow may make your menstrual blood seem thick or denser than usual.

Your life style , your food , your mental state your activity level all have great impact on your on your body including your periods .

For your info , Hormonal imbalance, particularly in estrogen and progesterone is most common in adolescents who recently began their periods and women who are getting close to menopause .

. Hormonal imbalance may also occur if there is a problem in the function of the ovaries.
Other medical conditions that can prevent normal blood clotting, including liver, kidney, or thyroid disease, and bleeding or platelet disorders.

A normal period lasts between two and seven days. The average length of time for a period is three to five days.

Heavy menstruation can interfere with sleep and daily activities. Blood loss from heavy periods can also lead to anemia, causing symptoms such as fatigue and shortness of breath .
