What Causes Delay In Periods?

hi dr. i had my last period on 10 april 2011 but i had not got my may period . i had done my pregrance test which was negative . i had done on 5th day after missed the period pls help me . i had started primolut n from 5th day of missed periods due to function at home . is it safe if i am pragnet or should i do the test again after 10 day pls help me waiting to be pragnet

Thanks for writing to us.

1) You should repeat the home pregnancy test after 10 days to rule out late conception. Primolut-N is NOT safe while you are pregnant. You should stop taking the pill soon after confirmation of pregnancy.

2) In absence of pregnancy, other reasons of late period may be due to PCOD, ovarian cyst, hypothyroid state, over weight/ extreme loss, extra mental stress or anxiety, emotional upset, eating disorder, high prolactin.

3) You should undergo complete hormone profile (like LH/ FSH, serum prolactin, progesterone, thyroid, DHEAS, testosterone etc) and pelvic ultrasound scan (USG) to identify underlying pathology.

Review with test results or you can consult with local gynecologist. You may require hormonal pill to induce period.

Maintain genital hygiene, control body weight. Good luck.
