What Causes Cricoid Cartilage To Be So Tender To Touch?

What could cause my cricoid cartilage to be so tender to touch? It is very tender on palpating and as it moves during swallow. I am well and experiencing no other symptoms. My TFT's have and are always within normal range. This happens every couple of months

Regarding your query about recurrent tenderness over cricoid cartilage of larynx, probably you may be having-

1- Perichondritis of cricoid cartilage.

2- Cricoarytenoiditis.

3- Recurrent Laryngitis.

Above may be ruled out by clinical examination by your ENT doctor and few basic investigations are necessary to confirm the diagnosis like-

a- Serum uric acid.

b- Direct laryngoscopy.

Finally your problem may be manage according to diagnosis.
