What Causes Cold, Sore Throat And Productive Cough?

Hi Doc my name is Jash, 29, 5'2" in height, and weighs 102 lbs., married. I am having this dry cough since I was young and had a history of bronchitis when i was 1 year old.Just recently, Im having colds, sore throat, productive cough and excessive mucus that bothers me so much especially at night. I took muculytic syrup and capsules, natural cough remedies such as lemon and ginger but i think there's no improvement, Cough still bothers me and it gets even harder and dryer that sometimes i may experience tightness of the chest, and one thing that makes me worried is that we're in the process of having a baby. I am a year married but still wanting to have a child, Does having this (severe) cough would greatly affect of our desire to pregnancy? What are the foods that i need to get rid off that may trigger severe cough and foods that are healthy to the lungs?and if ever I am a week pregnant now then i happened to take this muculytic syrups does it affect the child? i am hoping that my query will be given clarity. Thank you so much doc.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your persistent dry cough may be due to common cold, acid reflux, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma or prolonged exposure to irritants such as smoke and tobacco. Viral respiratory tract infections may also play a role. Yes those mucolytic syrups have a negative affect in pregnancy. So it is better you consult a physician near to you for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query.
