What Causes Cold Along With Green Tinged Phlegm With Cough?

I have had a heavy cold which started in my throat and sinuses, moved to my chest, then back to my head and throat. Latterly, I have been coughing up green-to black lumps, and my sinuses have been draining a thick egg-yolk yellow mucus - and lots of it - when I blow my nose.

Seems to be getting better now, but I have a persistent need to cough up a green-tiged phlegm.

Any ideas?

Hi,thank you for posting your query on health care magic.

Looking at your symptoms, you are suffering from inflammation in the respiratory tract.

You may find relief by taking Antihistaminic like Cetrizine,Analgesic with Anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen with Antacid like Rantac,Oral Decongestant like Phenylephrine with Nasal Decongestant drops like Xylometazoline(use decongestant only if you are not suffering from high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney or urinary problems, high pressure in the eyes-glaucoma),Mucolytic like Ambroxol,Bronchodilator like Salbutamol.

Green tinged phlegm is indicative of a bacterial infection. In such a case, it would be advisable to start oral Antibiotics after consulting Physician doctor.

Also do steam inhalation.Do warm saline gargles.Avoid cold, spicy and oily food.Avoid dust, smoke and other polllutants.Drink lots of fluids(warm).

Hope this answers your question.Get well soon.
