I have been living in a mobile home covered in black mold and large alien looking spores that give off a kind of dust what are my health risks? I have a constant runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, burning in my throat and nose. I also have had no energy and am tired all of the time. I am a 62 year old woman who has had a recent heart attack the end of February and need to know why I am feeling so badly.

Hello,

You are suffering from chronic nasal drip and sneezing. You also have a burning sensation in the throat. You feel tired all the time and also had a recent heart attack at the end of February. You are suffering from chronic sinusitis and hence you are getting post nasal drip. Get clinically examined by an ENT, get X-ray PNS done to detect deviated nasal septum that may trigger your sinuses.

Burning sensation in the throat is commonly caused by acid reflux/GERD, it can be relieved by taking antacids or PPIs, one stat when needed. Take adequate quantity of water and fluids, it will help to control it. Constant running nose, sneezing watery eyes are due to allergy that you are developing as you are living in a mobile home covered with black mold. Get tested for mold exposure, your treating doctor will take blood test and skin prick test. Get treated.

Mold exposure may cause risk of chronic respiratory diseases, recurrent allergic reactions, people with weakened immune systems are also at a higher risk of fungal infections, which can include lung infections due to molds. Since you had a heart attack and are not feeling well, get clinically examined, visit ER/Cardiologist. You may need urgent medical support.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
