What Causes Chronic Joint And Muscle Pain On The Back And Legs?

I am a 60 year old female with chronic back and leg pain, both joint and mm. I ve had a desk job for 23 years and slowly gotten to the point where it has become more and more difficult for me to walk. I purchased a recumbent bike and ride 7-8 miles 2-4 days per week, combined with 2-4 days of 30 minute yoga. It is not helping much. I was diagnosed many years ago with Fibromyalgia...cymbalta makes me sleepy so quit taking. Could I have a vitamin d deficiency? How much should I be taking?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have a history of fibromyalgia, get it treated without delay. Since you have stopped taking Cymbalta, you will need other medications(antidepressants, pain relievers, anti seizures). You should take physical & occupational therapy at a regular basis. Lifestyle changes are a must, eat healthy home made food, exercise regularly, stay away from stress & anxiety.

Cut on alcohol, smoking or addictions if any. Other medical conditions that can cause similar symptoms are peripheral neuropathy, Sciatica, OA, RA etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get all the blood and Imaging tests done to detect the pathology. Get treated at the earliest. Your treatment will depend upon the severity of your symptoms & pathology detected. You can take NSAIDS for relieve from pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
