What Causes Buzzing Noises In The Ear?

Hi I had a minor ear infection last November wich resulted in me being left with a loud buzzing in my head, i got another ear infection straight away and the buzzing got worse i was also deaf, got that cleared up with antibiotics although i was still deaf and the buzzing was still there, i then got a third infection and was really deaf, i could feel so much pressure in my head but not much pain, i did eventually get reffered to a ENT doctor and he told me i was suffering from tinnitis and i should get used to it, in fact he was very rude!! Anyway, i still have the buzzzing but last week i had terrible noises in my ears and then a couple of hours later all this muck (puss) was going down my throat, after about two hours it cleared away and my buzzing was alot quieter, then a couple of nights ago a had an almighty pop in my head then a horrible whooshing sound, i went dizzy and felf very ill the buzzing got worse and then again about two hours later i had all this puss going down the back of my throat!, the next day the buzzing had quietend down again. I haven t had another ear infection but am quite worried, countless visits to the doctor have been a waste of time, i am corrently waiting to see another ENT doctor on the 12th of April. Please can you tell me whats happening. Thanks

Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Considering your history of repeated ear infection, it is very obvious that you have acute on chronic suppurative otitis media. Antibiotics definitely helps but more important is cleaning and drainage of the year. The reason you have feeling of blocked ear, heaviness and tinnitus is that pus and necrotic debris is still in your ear and unfortunately it was not properly cleaned and followed upon. It is imperative for you to get your ear cleaned (Suction clearance) by the ENT doctor and keep your ear dry.

You can keep your ear dry by using ear plugs or cotton with some Vaseline over it which makes a good seal while you are planning a shower etc. Once your ear is dry and cleaned regularly ,it will provide an opportunity to your ear drum to heal. Repeated antibiotics will only produce resistant microorganisms. Also, please make sure your nose is open and potent by using topical steroid sprays like Flonase nasal spray 2 puffs once a day.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
