What Causes Brown Colored Spotting?

I have taken clomid on days 3-7 and then duphastone on 16-25. Since day 27 I have had cramps and a tiny bit of brown spotting today is day 30. I took a pregnancy test this morning and it was negative. Is there any chance the brown spotting is implanting or is it just a slow period
