What Causes Body Imbalance And Slurred Speech?

My husband is a truck driver who just returned home a couple hours ago. He got up around 4:00 a.m. this morning and drove about 150 miles where he spent several hours waiting for his trailer to be unloaded. He first got back home around 4:00 p.m. He spent sometime down in our shop. I went to check with him around 5:00 at which time he told me he felt funny when he woke up this morning. He felt uncoordinated on his right side. Walking felt weird and he couldn t write very straight. He also said his speech was a little funny. He said he has no pain. He has type 2 diabetes but did not have his checker along so he ate a peanut butter sandwich which did not make symptoms go away. He feels the same now

Hello,
Thank for your Query.

*what is his age, height and weight?
* does he smoke or consume alcohol?
*what medication does he take for diabetes? how long has he had diabetes?
*does he have any breathing difficulty while climbing stairs ?
* any leg pain, discoloration of the skin on the legs or feet?
* any visual disturbances?

Based on his symptoms and your query, I would like to rule out stroke.

I recommend:
- an urgent physucuan consult and a neurologist opinion
- a ct scan or mri of the brain. An angiogram of the cerebral (brain)circulation may be needed.
- an electrocardiogram and echocardiogram
-blood tests ( complete blood count, lipid profile, thyroid profile, blood glucose panel, kidney and liver function tests)
- urine analysis
- chest x ray
- doppler study of the lower limbs to check for thrombosis

based on these we can find out what is going on. your husband ,being a truck driver, is prone to deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
This puts him at an increased risk for stroke and cardiovascular events (heart attack, for instance).
I urge you to see a doctor right away or go to the emergency.
Sometimes these symptoms could reflect a transient clot which could lead to a major stroke. so the sooner you catch it and get it treated, the better the prognosis.
hope this helps.
please let me know if there is anything else i can help you with.
Wish you both good health
