What Causes Black Tar Stools In A Baby?

my baby is 1.5 mnths old.she has been having diarrea,vomiting,and fever for past 4 days.her stool consisted of mucus like sticky substance.on consulting doctor she was diagonised having gastro enteritis and was given antibiotics for 5 days.today is the 5th day and she is much better now.no fever or vomiting.just loose stools for 3 times a day.but today morning i noticed black tar like substance in her stool.got worried on seeing this.what does it mean?pls help.

Hi...by what you quote the black tarry substance in the stool could be an altered blood speck. The point now is as to know where it is originating from.

A 1.5 months old baby with blood in stools - the strongest possibility to be considered is cow's milk protein allergy. Infective diarrhea will come last in the line of diagnoses in such an young infant.

I suggest you get back to your pediatrician with this tips and get it worked up.
