What Causes Back Pain & Frequent Urination Post A Colostomy?

I am 45 yr old female. I have had a colostomy for 2 years due to cancer sx. I have started having an ache that comes in goes in my lower right back ( worse when trying to sleep ) this morning I started feeling kind of bloated and the urgency to urinate frequently. Am I prone to infections ( UTI and etc) with a colostomy due to cross contamination ?

There is no reason for you to have the symptoms that you have described due to the colostomy alone. However, if you have recieved radiotherapy to the area then these symptoms can occur due to the radiotherapy as a delayed side effect. Also if your rectum has been removed, then the nerves of the area get affected leading to these symptoms. Otherwise there is no cross contamination in a colostomy. Drink plenty of water, take Tab Norfloxacin 400mg twice daily for 5 days. If the symptoms persist then consult your oncologist.
