What Causes Back Pain After Sinus Infection?

I woke up with a sinus infection a few days ago. Today I have intense upper and lower back pain. It s a dull pain when simply sitting, but very intense when I cough or take a deep breath. I have been coughing some, but it s not an extreme cough. Could there be another cause for the back pain?

Hi,

Noted your history of severe back pain after an attack of sinus infection, even slight coughing is causing more pain.
The causes I can think about are as follows:
The sinus infection can spread to the body through blood and cause overall myalgia.
Back being composed of muscles that are most used get affected first as that of neck and low back and calves in particular.
Hence you need the following:
Consult your Doctor for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations of blood and CT scan of sinuses to know the exact extent of infection or so.
Blood culture to see for the spread and get culture and sensitivity to know the causative organisms so that proper treatment with antibiotic, anti-inflammatory can be started along with symptomatic treatment.
This will allow the cure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
