What Causes Abdominal Bloating?

Yes, I certainly hope so! I have been having bowel problems for a couple of years now! I live in a Veterans home. I experience a bloated belly with what seems a discomfort on my left side and nothing seems to get through, down thru the intestines and out to the bowl! I have COPD and the constipation seems to affect it through the bloatedness. When I have breathing ... I have a panic attack ... clonopin ... it s a never ending cycle that has now gotten on my nerves ... let s start trying to get me better!

1) Do a clinical examination by your treating Doctor [gastroenterologist] and to rule out other pathological disorders do an endoscopy, stool examinations and TSH,].

2) Discuss with your Doctor about prescription medication like [Pantoprazole] if you have heartburn along with bloating.

Do follow lifestyle modifications like this:

1) Try to eat smaller, more frequent meals. Chew your food slowly and thoroughly.

2) Try to avoid fatty and spicy foods, processed foods, carbonated beverages, caffeine, alcohol, and smoking et cetera.

3) Try to maintain a healthy weight. Excess pounds put pressure on your abdomen.

4) Do exercise regularly. Exercise helps you keep off extra weight and promotes better digestion.

5) Try to manage stress. Create a calm environment at mealtime. Practice relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, meditation or yoga. Spend time doing things you enjoy. Get plenty of sleep more than 10 hours.

6) Try to avoid painkillers and if needed then take with PPI.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
