What Causes A Lump At Needle Insertion Site After Blood Donation?
I donated blood yesterday about 2pm. This is not my first time to donate. In the bend of my left arm where they inserted the needle, I have a golf ball size hard knot that is very painful and I'm unable to fully extend my arm without severe discomfort. There's no bruising, just the hard knot. I've applied ice & tried a heating pad and neither is helping alleviate the pain/swelling. Is there anything else I can do?
I can understand our concern for lump at needle insertion site after blood donation.
The important thing to tell you have hematoma formation due to simple collection of blood due to minor injury to the very fine blood vessels under the skin by the needle during the procedure of blood collection. Due to this blood gets collected and causes swelling over the site.
As it is quite large in size therefore you should meet your doctor so that further complications can be reduced.
You can take a pain killer such as paracetamol round the clock till you see a doctor. Do not massage or do any type of compression or application over it.
All the best.
