What Causes A Hard Red Spot At The Top Of Buttcrack?

I am a 25 year old female and i have a hard round red spot a little over the size of a quartar at the top of my buttcrack. It hurts to sit, lay down and gets really irritated and feels raw when i walk. Ive had this a week now and it seems the one size has gone down, while on the other side its harder and has a small darker circle within the dark red area. What is it? Should i go to a doctor?

Hello,

You have a hard red spot at the top of your buttocks. It hurts, it pains when you sit down. Such symptoms commonly occur due to poor hygiene, weak immune system, excessive shaving, boil, carbuncles, high blood glucose level, shaving, diabetes, small cuts or injuries to the skin, STI (herpes, etc.), etc. You are suggested to take care of your hygiene, do not touch, pop or scratch to prevent infection from spreading.

Apply warm moist compress 2-3 times a day for relieve. You can take pain relieving medicine, Tylenol or Combiflam / Naproxen for relieve. Taking a course of Augmentin will help to heal it faster. If its boil or carbuncle it will have to be incised, drained and removed in a clinical procedure. Thereafter antiseptic dressing will be done.

However, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, to detect any sexually transmitted infection like herpes, etc. If positive you will be treated with antibiotics and antivirals. Take shower regularly and change into fresh clothes, avoid wearing clothes on which you have sweated. Wear loose fitting clothes to prevent friction and use water based moisturizers.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

I do think this needs looked at by your doctor. From your description what I am thinking here is what is called a PILONIDAL CYST, these occur really commonly exactly in that area. Pilonidal cysts usually occur when a small hair punctures the skin (like a small ingrown hair) and then becomes embedded. If a pilonidal cyst becomes infected, the resulting abscess is often extremely painful. I do really think this needs looked at before it gets bigger so that it can be addressed now.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
