What Causes A Hacking Cough With Mucus And A Runny Nose?
I have had a cough for approximately a month. It began with a head cold that escalated to laryngitis for about two to three days. After this abated, I was left with a mucousy cough especially at night and in the mornings for two weeks. I then became sick again for three days with a similar head cold, stuffy nose, coughing, etc. I now have sores on the back of my throat, a hacking cough and a light runny nose.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are having symptoms of hacking cough with mucus and a runny nose which is due to severe upper respiratory infection.
Need not to worry. Apply mist humidifiers in room and take throat soothing agents. I would suggest you to visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get paranasal sinus x-ray done so as to detect level of infection and treatment can be started accordingly. You should take combination of antibiotic Levofloxacin along with antihistamine such as Levocetirizine. You should do warm saline rinses 3-4 times a day. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages.
