What Cause Stomach Pain And Saliva From Mouth During Sleep?
Hello, lately often when I go to sleep, my mouth produces alot of saliva which I have to swallow alot and i often cough alot after that too. I do not know for sure if this is heartburn because it does not feel that way but then my stomach hurts. Any ideas on what this might be?

GERD is the inappropriate relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter, resulting in the acid of the stomach coming up into the esophagus causing excessive salivation and cough. You can start treatment with proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole or lansoprazole) to control the disease with life style modifications. Try to lose weight if obese, avoid foods that increase acidity of your stomach such as alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, chocolate, or any spicy food. Also avoid eating within 3 hours of bedtime. Sleep in a bed with a pillow elevating your head 6 to 8 inches. Except GERD excessive salivation may be sign of infections, liver or pancreas problem, oral infections or can be seen while taking certain medications. These disorders usually accompanied by other signs and symptoms (eg. fever, diarrhea etc).
I hope the above information will be helpful for you. Please, feel free to ask me if there is anything else you need to know.
Thank you, Malik Amonov MD
