What Cause Red Patches On My Sons Tongue?

Hi, my 2 yr old son has a few red patches on his tongue, runny nose for past few days and now a cough. I thought it could be a standard virus but the tongu patches and slight red rash above his top lip made me wonder if it could be hfmd or similar. When do I need to be concerned?

This is more likely to be due to a bacterial species known as the strep. You should take him to a doctor for a rapid strep test and then receive a prescription of an appropriate antibiotic to be used for 10 days. If he is not allergic to penicillin, that may be the best thing to use.
