Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had a colonoscopy and my doctor was not able to get a clear picture of my colon due to a serious large blockage. I have been told to drink Miralax every day and perform 6 enemas the day before my next one in 30 days. Can you tell me if there is anything else I can do to remove this blockage? I eat very healthy yogurt, blueberries and shredded wheat for breakfast, 1 slice of turkey with hummus for lunch and chicken or fish with vegetables for dinner.
If the blockage is from stool, then you should take miralax daily. You can also take milk of magnesium if you are not having soft, regular, daily stools. Continue you healthy diet. You can also increase your fluids and fiber intake. Fruits, vegetables, bran, whole grains are good sources of fiber intake.
If the blockage is not due to stool, you should be very careful if you are taking miralax because constipation is not the issue. You can get colonic rupture if you over stimulate you bowels and there is a mass blocking outflow.
Enemas and suppositories can help if there is constipation too, but not if there is a colon mass. You ultimately need another colonoscopy to determine the cause of the mass or blockage. It is not normal to have a seriously large blockage.
