Hi,

Istamet 50 mg/500 mg is a combination of two medicines sitagliptin (50 mg) and metformin (500mg) commonly prescribed to control blood sugar in type 2 diabetic patients.

Its common side effects include vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, metallic taste, low blood sugar levels and a serious complication lactic acidosis (metformin-induced).

Based on the history given your mom seems to have developed a very low blood sugar level apparently caused by taking istamet 50/500 along with triglynase 2 forte together.

She needs a dose adjustment of the prescribed medications by her treating doctor and frequent monitoring of blood sugar to safely use both medications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
