What Are The Risks Involved In Repair Of Mitral Valve/valve Replacement Surgery?

my most recent echocardiogram shows: the posterior mitral valve leaflet most likely has flail chordes tendinea causing the severe mitral valve insufficiency. Does this need a repair of the mitral valve or is a valve replacement necessary? What are the risks of this procedure and the normal recovery time?

Hi,

In your case if valve anatomy is normal then mitral valve repair may suffice. Mitral repair would be the better choice as it has got less operative risk, no need of post op anticoagulation. Although both are big procedure with high operative risk which depends on various patients factor usually between 5 to 10%. Recovery time is around 2 weeks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
