What Are The Effects On Esophagus Due To Prolonged Usage Of Steroids?
Hi, my name is Sharon; I have POLYMYOSITIS/ DERMATOMYOSITS and have had it for 43 years. I am in the extreme stage of both. I have b een diagnosed with a Peptic Ulcer and problems with the smaqll intestine. Gallbladder & Liver were ruled out at the ER. I have stones in both of my Kidneys also. They are going to put the light down my throat and checked the Esophagus. What would be the worst case scenario if I have been on steroids and numerous meds for 20 years?

Long term steroid use may produce peptic ulcer or fungal and other opportunistic infections.
Upper GI endoscopy would help detect these.
